If executed properly, Pilates engages the entire body while using the body's own weight for resistance, which makes it very functional for overall strengthening, balance and rehabilitation. Each movement reduces stiffness and releases body toxins, thus cleansing the body and the brain.

Joseph Pilates developed the system of exercises and specialized equipment with a simple philosophy: movement heals and strengthens the body. The exercises target five muscle groups: abdominals, inner and outer thighs, buttocks and the back; or what he called the powerhouse of the body; or, what we call today, THE CORE. Not unlike the engine of a car, a strong powerhouse enables the body to move freely in all directions. Core strength supports the back and neck, giving us healthy posture and freeing the joints to allow a natural flexibility of the limbs. This kind of strength and flexibility training translates well into all kinds cross training. Pilates is for everyone, from creating an efficient biomechanics for the high-performance athlete to rehabilitating de-conditioned bodies.

The Pilates method of exercise fully engages the body, mind and spirit in controlled movements that strengthen and stretch targeted muscles. As a beginner, this method cannot be properly shared in a typical mat class of 20 enthusiasts. Our instructors will create a program specifically for your needs that involves the use of specialized equipment. We then offer a variety of arrangements and classes once you are comfortable and confident.
